We have a doberman so he is of course a good guard dog. We moved into a house that already had a security system wired. We are considering getting it activated but I wonder if it is worth the money. It will cost us $30 a month with a 3 year contract. The company is Monitronics if anyone has any experience with them. Thanks!

no not really since u already have a guard dog he would going in and out the house setting off the alarm and i know u dont wanty that 2 happen so i would remove it..
The advantage to most modern security systems is that they are monitored and often more responsive. A security system can be tied in with smoke alarms or even moisture detectors to contact 9-1-1 in the event of a fire or flood, something the dog can’t do. An alarm will notify the monitoring system of a break-in. An alarm can’t be bought off with snack food. And in a tragic possibility, the alarm will be hard to silence, whereas a dog can be killed pretty quickly. Add to that the monitoring system, and the alarm is better protection. If you go on vacation, you have to leave the dog at home to protect the house while you’re away. But what if you go to the beach and want Fido to go with you? Who’s protecting the house? What if the dog is not well? So I would get the alarm anyway. We pay $16 for the monitoring, and the alarm/installation were free. Not to mention the discount on our homeowners insurance.
Obviously I am biased towards monitoring a security alarm system. Be careful who you have monitor it though. You don’t have to stick with monitronics. I believe they use wireless so you may want to change to a more reliable system if that is the fact. Otherwise, most alarm systems can be monitored by anyone providing they can get into the programming or at the very least default the panel.
One thing to keep in mind is motion detectors. I don’t care what any person tells you motion detectors and pets (Particularly a doberman) do not work well together. Unless you are trying to deafen your pet with the sound of false alarms.
Instead you may look at installing contacts on all the accessible windows and doors. Glassbreak detectors also work well for pre-entry protection.
Since you have an alarm, you may also want to connect smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. The peace of mind is definately worth the investment.

As the previous person mentioned, dogs are great as a deterrent but I have seen the biggest of dogs cower for a bone.
Depends on who you trust more, your Doberman with your familey, or a house security system.
